Project Naos: Shaping the Future of Data Centers with Innovation and Tier IV Certification

Assessment

In 2014, the expanding data center market led BT Latam (now Sencinet) to enhance its network with a new Data Processing Center (DPC) in Colombia.

The vision was twofold: to respond to market growth and meet client needs for advanced IT services, from colocation and hosting to cloud computing platforms and managed IT services.

Diagnosis and Strategy

The strategy focused on building Colombia’s first Tier IV-certified data center, ensuring a robust infrastructure with 99.995% service availability and efficient, reliable operation for uninterrupted service.

The solution integrated scalable electrical systems and an advanced cooling system, optimizing energy efficiency with a PUE close to 1.4.

Action Plan

The Naos Data Center was constructed in a record 10 months, positioning it as Colombia’s pioneer and a benchmark in the Andean region. Its Tier IV certification and efficiency in energy and water management quickly attracted investment and clients, filling its capacity to 100% in 4 years, exceeding expectations.

Products and Services

Naos features a modular, scalable electrical infrastructure, including:

  • Electrical substation with 3 MVA and 2.5 MVA transformers
  • 18 generators of 537 kW each, in a 2N configuration
  • High-efficiency UPS with 650 kW capacity, expandable to 1300 kW
  • 250TR chillers with magnetic levitation compression and free cooling technology
  • Comprehensive building management system, access control, video surveillance, and fire detection and suppression systems.

“

The construction of Colombia’s first Tier IV-certified data center was a challenge we embraced with a vision to set a new standard in the industry. Cotel’s elite engineering team was instrumental in this project, contributing their experience and advanced technological solutions, enabling us not only to meet our infrastructure and service objectives but also to surpass market expectations.
